Design Manager – Main Contractor

Our client, a successful and growing main contractor based in South Woodford, is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join their team on a permanent basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Design Manager with a strong architectural background who is looking to play a key role in the delivery of high-quality construction projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the design process from pre-construction through to project completion, ensuring designs are coordinated, buildable, compliant and delivered in line with programme requirements.

Working closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors and project delivery teams, you will be instrumental in driving projects forward whilst maintaining the highest standards of design quality and technical compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate the design process across multiple construction projects
• Review and manage design information to ensure accuracy, buildability and compliance
• Coordinate architects, consultants, subcontractors and internal project teams
• Monitor design programmes and ensure information is issued in line with project requirements
• Identify and resolve design issues throughout the project lifecycle
• Ensure compliance with current Building Regulations, planning conditions and client specifications
• Attend design team meetings and provide technical guidance where required
• Support project teams during both pre-construction and delivery phases
• Manage design risks and contribute to successful project outcomes

Essential Requirements

• Previous experience working as a Design Manager within the construction industry
• Architectural background essential 
• Experience working for a main contractor or a strong understanding of main contractor project delivery
• Excellent technical knowledge of construction detailing and building regulations
• Strong understanding of the design and construction process
• Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and coordinate complex design packages
• Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills
• Proficient in reviewing technical drawings and construction documentation
