Higher Level Teaching Assistant- Job Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist SEN provision in Ilford, supporting students aged 8-16 with Autism (ASD), ADHD, SEMH and additional learning needs.
This is an excellent opportunity for a confident HLTA who is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and can deliver targeted interventions, classroom support and behaviour management within a structured and supportive environment.
Higher Level Teaching Assistant- Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality classroom and intervention support for students with SEN including ASD, ADHD and autism.
- Lead small group sessions and targeted interventions to support academic, social and emotional development.
- Deliver planned learning activities and cover lessons when required.
- Support students with emotional regulation, communication and social interaction skills.
- Work closely with teachers and SENCOs to implement EHCP targets and personalised support plans.
- Use behaviour management and de-escalation strategies to support positive engagement.
- Monitor and record student progress, behaviour and wellbeing.
- Support students both inside and outside the classroom to promote confidence and independence.
- Build positive and professional relationships with students, staff and parents/carers.
- Follow safeguarding procedures and contribute to maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Higher Level Teaching Assistant- Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), Teaching Assistant or SEN Support Worker.
- Experience supporting students with ASD, ADHD, autism and SEMH needs.
- Strong behaviour management and communication skills.
- Ability to lead interventions and support learning independently.
- Understanding of EHCPs and differentiated learning approaches.
- Calm, patient and resilient attitude.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service preferred.
