The Opportunity
We are seeking a Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join our growing Plymouth office. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to further develop their technical expertise, broaden project exposure, and take on increased responsibility within a collaborative and supportive environment.
You will work across a diverse range of projects throughout the South West, spanning sectors such as commercial, residential, healthcare, education, refurbishment, and mixed-use developments - from smaller-scale schemes to large, high-profile projects.
This role offers hands-on project involvement, structured professional development, and clear progression opportunities, including support towards EngTech, IEng, or CEng accreditation through an accredited mentoring scheme.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design & Technical Delivery
- Produce mechanical building services designs, calculations, reports, and technical specifications.
- Assist in the delivery of coordinated and compliant HVAC and mechanical systems.
- Prepare technical documentation to support project delivery and design development.
- Use CAD, BIM (Revit) and mechanical calculation software to produce high-quality engineering solutions.
- Support compliance with relevant UK regulations, standards, and client requirements.
- Undertake site surveys, inspections, defect reporting, and witnessing activities with support from senior engineers.
- Contribute to project meetings, design reviews, and technical discussions.
- Assist with project delivery from concept through to completion.
- Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, surveyors, contractors, and wider design teams.
- Support the coordination of mechanical building services designs within multidisciplinary environments.
- Work closely with senior engineers to ensure efficient and technically robust project delivery.
Essential Requirements
- Eligibility to work in the UK (visa sponsorship is not available).
- Experience within mechanical building services design. Candidates with varying levels of experience will be considered, including those suitable for an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer position.
- Relevant qualification such as a Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent in Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative project team environment.
- Experience using Revit within a building services environment.
- Experience with mechanical calculation software.
- Understanding of UK Building Regulations, British Standards, and industry guidance.
- Previous involvement in site inspections, surveys, or project delivery support.
