SEMH Teaching Assistant – Taunton

Full-Time Opportunity | Teaching Personnel

Teaching Personnel are working closely with schools in the Taunton area to recruit dedicated and resilient SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Teaching Assistants.

This rewarding role involves supporting students who may face barriers to learning due to social, emotional, or mental health needs. You will play a key role in helping students build confidence, develop positive relationships, and achieve success both academically and personally.

The Role:
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students
  • Support students in managing their emotions, behaviour, and engagement with learning
  • Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to implement support strategies
  • Encourage positive behaviour and help create a safe and inclusive learning environment
  • Support students both inside and outside of the classroom where required
The Ideal Candidate Will:
  • Have experience working with children or young people, particularly those with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs
  • Be patient, empathetic, and resilient
  • Have strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Remain calm under pressure and be confident managing challenging situations
  • Be passionate about making a positive difference in young people's lives

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
