We are looking to appoint a Senior Quality Engineer with industry knowledge and aerospace experience to work as part of our quality team within our sheet metal and assembly business at our Dukinfield, Cheshire, site.
About the opportunity
The Senior Quality Engineer (SQE) for Hyde Details is part of the Management Team and is empowered to make departmental business decisions with the requirements of Hyde Details and efficiency in mind. As such, it is expected that the person in post will lead the team of Quality Engineers and act professionally, with authority, by example, and in the best interests of Hyde Details.
The role, given the fast-paced nature of the business, requires a high level of commitment, unquestioned confidentiality and focus, preparation and attention to detail, ongoing professional development, and agility and quick decision-making to meet the ever-changing workloads and needs of the team and business. As the SQE, you will represent the quality team at internal meetings or represent HDL at divisional or external meetings as needed.
Role Requirements
As the Senior Quality Engineer, whilst accountable for the following, delegation and oversight of some of these requirements will be expected.
Main Duties
Safety:
-
Have a working understanding of health and safety best practice and legislation.
-
Lead by example and promote and enforce safe working practices.
-
Ensure that H&S policies and memos are followed, including by staff, visitors and contractors.
-
Prevent, police and report unsafe practices.
-
Identify opportunities for safer practice.
-
Undertake personal H&S training courses / modules.
-
Support and maintain a “safety first” philosophy.
Quality:
-
Fully understand the IMS core procedures and maintain a working understanding of the IMS and the general quality requirements within aerospace industry.

Provide clarity and guidance as needed so that quality expectations and requirements are understood.

Initiate proactive interventions to prevent quality issues and improve quality standards / outcomes.
-
Attend MRB [if required, and in the absence of the Quality Engineer for Product] to support the process and to help eradicate quality issues.

Manage the Quality Process Confirmation reporting weekly meeting.

Ensure that the relevant weekly and monthly quality reports are produced on time and contain correct information that can be used to make appropriate decisions.
Cost:

Commercial awareness: develop an understanding of the MRP system to validate / quantify NCR costs and/or the benefit of any proposed improvements.

Play a pivotal role in the CI/HAPII process, including taking the lead in the completion of HAPIIs assigned to you or your team.
Delivery:

Clearly understand our clients’ requirements, ensuring that the actions of the quality team support the business.

Capacity: ensure that we have the capacity and cover in place to achieve the team’s output.

Work allocation: assess new requirements and the workload of the team, making best use of the capacity and resource available.
People:

Create and maintain a positive working culture to ensure that we maximise our output through work allocation, training and development, and workplace enthusiasm.

Training and skills development: using the skills matrix and your knowledge of your team, identify where training and development is needed to strengthen the team.
Sustainability:
-
Requirements of ISO 14001: maintain a working understanding of the environmental accreditation to make appropriate day-to-day decisions.

Regularly review activity within the factory with sustainability in mind, i.e. wasted resources, incorrect management of waste disposal, etc.
Other:
-
5S: ensure that 5S standards are in place, remain in place through training, and that 5S levels are audited and reported via the correct media.

Employee handbook: be aware of company policies and apply them consistently to prevent issues and maintain high standards.

Due to the subcontract nature of our business, a flexible, hands-on approach to your responsibilities is required.

·Personal development: undertake additional training as required or identified to enhance your own leadership skills. This includes the use of IT.
