1:1 Sports Coach Needed

Classroom Recruiters

Are you from a sports background and looking for meaningful work?

Have you ever thought about using your sports experience to make a real difference in a young person’s life?

Why not become a 1:1 Tutor supporting a student with special educational needs (SEND)?

This role is about far more than teaching — it’s about building a strong, positive relationship with a young person who loves sport and helping them re-engage with learning.

Classroom Recruiters are looking for a Sports Coach or Sports Specialist to support a student on a 1:1 basis.

This is a unique role where you will build a strong connection with the student, help them engage with their school work, and use shared interests — particularly sport — to create trust, motivation and confidence.

Your success in this role will be measured in smiles, engagement, and the progress that comes from building a great relationship.

You could be the person this young person remembers long into adulthood.

What You’ll Do

This role is about consistency, trust, and building a positive relationship.

Each day you will:

  • Pick the student up from home at 9:00am
  • Drive them to a learning centre in Long Eaton
  • Support them with their learning throughout the day
  • Help keep them engaged with school work and activities
  • Occasionally take part in activities outside of the classroom to help them stay motivated and regulated
  • Drop them home at 3:00pm

The student has a strong interest in sport, so someone who can connect through shared sporting interests will be key to building a positive relationship.

Progress in SEND settings doesn’t always happen overnight, so patience, resilience and a calm approach are essential. But when the relationship clicks and the student begins to engage and grow in confidence, it makes the role incredibly rewarding.

Why People from Sports Backgrounds Excel in These Roles

We’ve seen incredible success from people with sporting backgrounds.

Sports coaches naturally bring the exact qualities that many young people need — consistency, encouragement, energy and the ability to build trust.

You already know how to motivate, guide, and support young people. You understand teamwork, resilience and how to keep someone engaged even when things are challenging.

If you’ve coached or mentored young people before, you likely already have many of the core skills needed for this role.

A good sense of humour, patience and the ability to build rapport will make a huge difference.
