Admissions Advisor

We are currently looking for an Admissions Advisor join our Admissions Team in Newcastle.  

Are you passionate about widening participation in higher education and supporting non-traditional learners on their journey to academic success? As an Admissions Advisor, you’ll play a vital role in guiding applicants through every step of the admissions process, helping them transition into higher education with confidence and clarity. 

This role is perfect for someone who thrives on providing personalised support, has a keen eye for detail, and is committed to equity in education. You’ll be working with applicants who may be returning to study, changing careers, or entering university via non-standard routes, making your work both meaningful and impactful. 

What we are looking for:  

  • Managing applications from enquiry through to enrolment, ensuring a smooth and supportive admissions journey.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for applicants, offering advice on entry routes, funding options, and progression opportunities.
  • Conducting structured admissions interviews to assess academic readiness, motivation, and support needs.
  • Evaluating non-traditional applications using agreed frameworks, recognising professional experience and performance-based evidence.
  • Collaborating with partnership colleagues to align admissions processes with institutional policies and standards.
  • Providing guidance on Student Finance England eligibility and compliance requirements.
  • Supporting applicant conversion through personalised communication and outreach activities.
  • Identifying early indicators of risk to retention and flagging support needs ahead of enrolment.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of admissions processes and frameworks.

Person Specification 

Education  

  • Educated to A Level or above. 

Experience (Desirable)  

  • Experience in admissions, recruitment, or student services within further or higher education. 
  • Familiarity with UK higher education systems, Student Finance England, or widening participation initiatives. 
  • Experience conducting interviews or assessments. 
  • Experience working with non-traditional or mature learners. 

Skills 

  • Strong administrative skills with the ability to manage a busy workload and meet tight deadlines. 
  • Excellent customer service skills and a high level of professionalism. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail, cultural awareness, and sensitivity. 
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office and adaptable to new student record systems. 
  • A strong commitment to widening participation and student-centred admissions. 

In particular, you will:

  • Have regard for the need to safeguard students’ well-being, developing and maintaining a full understanding of current policies and procedures.
