We're supporting a leading construction consultancy in the recruitment of an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join the National Grid's Great Grid Upgrade – the largest overhaul of the UK electricity network in generations.
This programme forms part of National Grid's £30bn investment in electricity networks across England and Wales over the next four years, helping to connect renewable energy to homes and businesses while modernising the UK's power infrastructure.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to develop their career on nationally significant energy projects, supporting the delivery of complex substation and electrical infrastructure upgrades while working alongside experienced commercial professionals.
On-Site Requirement: 2–3 days per week
Key Responsibilities
- Support the commercial management and cost control of major substation and utility infrastructure projects.
- Assist with the administration of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, including variations and compensation events.
- Help prepare cost reports, budgets, forecasts, and financial updates for project teams and clients.
- Support procurement activities, subcontractor management, and tender evaluations.
- Assist with valuations, payment applications, and final account preparation.
- Work closely with senior commercial staff, project managers, contractors, and clients to ensure effective project delivery.
- Support risk management, cost planning, and project reporting activities.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and contribute to project financial governance.
Candidate Profile
- Previous experience within a Quantity Surveying role, ideally gained within infrastructure, utilities, civil engineering, energy, or construction projects.
- Understanding of commercial management principles and an interest in developing NEC contract knowledge.
- Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- Working towards professional accreditation such as RICS, CIOB, or equivalent is advantageous.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships within project teams.
- Proactive attitude with a desire to learn and develop within a leading consultancy environment.
