Hampshire County Council is urgently seeking an experienced Assistant Team Manager to join its Children’s Services team in Rushmoor on a full-time locum basis. This is an exciting opportunity to work within one of the UK’s most highly regarded local authorities, recognised for its commitment to delivering high-quality services, supporting frontline staff, and driving positive outcomes for children and families.

This hybrid role offers flexibility while remaining closely connected to a supportive and collaborative team environment. Although the role is currently non-case holding, candidates must be prepared to support with caseloads if required and attend the office as needed.

The Opportunity

As Assistant Team Manager, you will play a key leadership role in supporting the Team Manager with the day-to-day operation of the service, ensuring continuity, consistency, and high standards of practice across the team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and supporting Social Workers and Occupational Therapists within the team

  • Assisting with workflow management and service development in line with commissioning plans

  • Supporting staff with complex cases, including co-working where necessary

  • Ensuring quality assurance of assessments, reports, court statements, and meeting minutes

  • Providing guidance and support to less experienced practitioners

  • Chairing and attending statutory meetings and representing the Team Manager at strategy discussions

  • Delivering group supervision sessions and contributing to individual staff supervision

  • Acting as the first point of contact for case consultation and practice guidance

  • Ensuring all work is completed in line with statutory responsibilities, departmental procedures, and professional standards

  • Maintaining awareness of equality, health and safety, sustainability, and corporate policies
