Job Title: Unqualified SEN Teaching Assistant

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Unqualified SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming educational setting in Oldham from September.

In this role, you will support students aged 16–19 with Autism, providing both 1:1 and in-class support to help them engage with learning and develop independence within a structured and supportive environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people with additional needs, even without formal qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to students with Autism

  • Support students throughout the school day, including routines and transitions

  • Assist with classroom activities and learning tasks

  • Help develop students’ social, emotional, and communication skills

  • Adapt resources and approaches to meet individual learning needs

  • Work closely with teaching staff and SEN professionals to deliver tailored support

  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment

About You

  • A genuine interest in supporting young people with SEN, particularly Autism

  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient with a calm and positive approach

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to build trust and rapport with students

  • Transferable experience (e.g. care work, youth work, support roles) is highly valued

  • Previous experience in education is beneficial but not essential

  • A willingness to learn and develop within an SEN setting
