Purpose of the Role

The Bid Writer role sits within the Colas Asset & Maintenance Solutions bid team, producing high-quality and professionally written content for prequalification and tender submissions. This role offers hybrid working, with two days per week based in any of the following offices: Birmingham, Chester, Portsmouth, Warrington, or London.

As a Bid Writer, you will provide effective bid writing services and technical solutions for allocated opportunities, liaising effectively with colleagues in Procurement, Commercial, Technical, Support Services, and the wider business. The salary for this role ranges from £45,000 to £55,000.

Main Responsibilities

As Bid Writer, you will work with the Proposals Manager, supporting them to maintain and improve bid management processes and to challenge existing practices. You will demonstrate appropriate experience, training, and qualifications for the post, and maintain up-to-date awareness of activities and standards within Colas’ business sectors.

You will use bid writing resources to develop and complete written responses, and contribute to win themes and bidding strategies through client research, document reviews, and liaison with regional teams.

The Bid Writer delivers written responses for prequalification and tender submissions to consistently high and compliant standards. You will also be involved in peer review responses, inputting to storyboarding sessions, attending bid solution meetings, and assisting with the preparation of presentations to the client.

 

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will hold a full driving licence and possess a degree or equivalent, preferably in English, Journalism, or Humanities. You will also be experienced in producing and editing written content for prequalification and tender submissions within the construction, civil engineering sectors, or related industries.
