About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Body Repair Manual Author to join a collaborative technical publications team supporting a rapidly growing automotive manufacturer. This role is ideal for individuals with experience in vehicle body repair, accident damage assessment, body-in-white engineering, paint and refinish, mechanical repair, or technical documentation.
You will play a key role in developing high-quality repair procedures and technical documentation used by body repair networks and approved repair centres. Working with advanced 3D CAD data and engineering information, you will help ensure repair methods are accurate, practical, and aligned with manufacturer standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse vehicle body structures using 3D CAD models and engineering data to develop repair procedures.
- Create clear, accurate technical documentation and illustrated repair methods using specialist authoring tools.
- Collaborate with engineering, aftersales, and technical stakeholders to validate repair information and obtain approvals.
- Develop warranty estimates and labour operations for body repair, paint, and refinish procedures.
- Assess repairability and provide feedback where vehicle design or engineering decisions impact repair processes.
- Apply technical knowledge to determine repair methods, cut lines, joining techniques, and material-specific repair requirements.
- Work closely with colleagues across other technical documentation disciplines to ensure repair procedures are complete and accurate.
- Support continuous improvement activities relating to repair methods, documentation quality, and repairability.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Industry experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Vehicle body repair
- Accident damage assessment
- Structural vehicle repair
- Body construction methods
- Paint and refinish operations
- Automotive engineering
- Strong understanding of vehicle body structures, repair techniques, and industry repair standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate, high-quality documentation.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently as well as within a team environment.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Experience in technical authoring, service documentation, or repair manual creation.
- Familiarity with CAD software, 3D visualisation tools, or engineering data systems.
- Knowledge of automotive warranty labour operations and repair time estimation.
- Experience working with OEM repair standards and approved repair networks.
