Building Services Engineer - Mechanical

Inverclyde

Dayshift up to 55k

NT Engineering & Manufacturing are proud to be supporting our manufacturing client in their search for a Building Services / Mechanical Engineer to join the Facilities Engineering team at their manufacturing facility in Inverclyde.

This is a system owner role. You’ll be the principal mechanical engineering authority on site — the person who defines what maintenance is needed on the mechanical building services infrastructure, manages capital projects from scoping through to commissioning, and ensures the site stays compliant, efficient and fit for purpose. You’ll work closely with the Facilities Engineering Manager and be developed into the go-to technical lead for all mechanical systems on site.

If you have a background in building services, mechanical engineering or facilities — and you want a role with real ownership, no shift work, and an employer who will invest in your development — this is a role worth exploring.

What you'll be doing:

  • Becoming the system owner for the site’s mechanical building services infrastructure — HVAC, ventilation, compressed air, vacuum systems, steam and hot water, chilled water, pumped water systems and effluent treatment
  • Assessing plant condition and developing improvement and replacement solutions — identifying need, scoping options, producing tender documents, evaluating contractor returns and managing installation through to commissioning
  • Defining and overseeing planned and reactive maintenance on all mechanical plant and equipment
  • Managing the site’s energy monitoring and targeting activities, and identifying energy saving opportunities
  • Using and maintaining the Building Management System (BMS) to support plant operation and optimisation
  • Reviewing and interpreting engineering drawings, design specifications and technical literature
  • Managing contractors and specialist suppliers for mechanical works across the site
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation including lifting equipment, pressure systems regulations (L8 / Legionella) and building services best practice
  • Supporting the upkeep of site drawings and draughting requirements (AutoCAD)

Experienced required:

  • Degree in Building Services or Mechanical Engineering, OR HNC/HND combined with strong demonstrable experience
  • Working knowledge of supply air, ventilation, air conditioning and extract/local exhaust ventilation systems
  • Experience of assessing plant condition and managing replacement or improvement projects end to end
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, design specs and technical documents
  • Awareness of standards and legislation relevant to mechanical building services (lifting equipment, pressure systems, L8 etc.)
  • At least a basic operational understanding of Building Management Systems
  • Strong communication skills — able to work across disciplines and levels
  • Able to manage multiple activities and prioritise effectively

Why this role?

  • Monday to Friday, 08:30–17:00 — no shift work, no rotating rota
  • Genuine principal engineer responsibility — you own the systems, not just maintain them
  • Funded training and development including AutoCAD and any identified skills gaps
  • Working in a high-technology, precision manufacturing environment with interesting and varied challenges
