On behalf of our globally respected client who develop cutting-edge technologies that deliver clean, safe and competitive solutions to meet the planet's vital power needs we are looking for a Buyer for a 12 month contract based in Bristol.
Please note in this role you would be working 3 days onsite in Bristol per week and 2 days working from home.
Purpose of the Buyer role:
- Support the delivery of a complex programme by managing procurement activities across high-complexity electrical systems.
- Ensure robust supplier selection, contract management, and compliance with regulatory, security and export control requirements.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to enable New Product Introduction (NPI), from concept design through to sourcing and supplier engagement.
What you'll do:
- Manage end-to-end procurement activities, including sourcing, supplier selection, and placement of purchase orders in line with programme requirements.
- Lead contract management activities, ensuring adherence to terms & conditions, governance, and defence-specific compliance standards.
- Conduct supplier due diligence, capability assessments, and supply chain mapping for new and existing suppliers.
- Work closely with engineering teams (design, manufacturing, and stakeholders).
- Support NPI activities by engaging with suppliers early in the design phase to ensure manufacturability and supply chain feasibility.
- Negotiate commercial terms and secure contracts aligned to programme objectives, cost targets, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, driving performance across quality, cost, and delivery.
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies, export control regulations, NDA requirements, and supply chain governance processes.
- Monitor supplier performance and manage any quality or delivery issues through effective resolution and escalation.
- Contribute to risk management activities, identifying and mitigating supply chain risks across the programme.
The skills you'll need:
- Strong, proven experience in procurement or buying.
- Solid contract management experience, with the ability to interpret and manage complex terms & conditions.
- Degree qualified (preferred).
- Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and programme teams.
- Experience in supplier sourcing, assessment, and relationship management.
- Understanding of governance, compliance, and ideally export control requirements.
- Experience working with ERP systems such as SAP.
- A proactive, adaptable mindset with the ability to manage change and bring fresh ideas/innovation.
