We are working with a leading navigation systems manufacturer who specialise in the design, integration, and delivery of advanced maritime navigation and mission systems used across commercial shipping, defence vessels, and specialist marine applications worldwide.
With a strong global presence and products installed on tens of thousands of vessels, the business is known for its high-quality engineering, innovation, and commitment to continuous improvement within a collaborative and inclusive working environment.
As part of continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Buyer to join their procurement function. This role will be responsible for sourcing goods, materials, components, and services, as well as supporting wider commercial and operational objectives through effective supplier management and negotiation.
The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders and the finance function to ensure cost-effective purchasing strategies, strong supplier performance, and full compliance with procurement policies and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source and purchase goods, materials, components, and services in line with cost, quality, and delivery requirements
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers
- Negotiate pricing, contractual terms, and delivery schedules to achieve optimal commercial outcomes
- Raise and manage purchase orders and procurement documentation accurately
- Monitor supplier performance across cost, quality, and delivery metrics
- Support supplier evaluations, audits, and performance reviews in collaboration with QHSE teams
- Investigate and resolve supply chain issues including delays, shortages, and quality concerns
- Ensure accurate data management within ERP systems (including SAP)
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within procurement processes
- Ensure compliance with internal procurement policies and relevant regulations
Candidate Requirements:
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or engineering procurement environment
- Strong negotiation and supplier management experience
- Understanding of end-to-end procurement processes and supplier relationship management
- Knowledge of UK contract law and procurement principles
- Experience working with ERP systems (SAP experience advantageous)
- Strong Excel and general Microsoft Office skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
Desirable:
- CIPS qualification (or working towards)
- Experience in import/export or international supply chains
- Exposure to SAP Business One
