CAD Technician – Structural & Secondary Steelwork

Hybrid working - 1 day in office

Poolhall Recruitment is recruiting for a CAD technican on behalf of a well-established steel fabrication business based in Dudley. The company supplies high-quality fabricated steel solutions to the construction sector, delivering a wide range of structural and secondary steelwork projects.

Their work includes steel frames, beams, support structures, platforms, staircases, industrial gates, and bespoke fabricated steelwork. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit an experienced CAD Technician to join their small friendly and supportive team.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced CAD Technician with a background in steel fabrication and construction-related projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing detailed 2D and 3D drawings for a variety of structural and secondary steelwork projects, ensuring designs are accurate, practical, and suitable for manufacture and installation.

The role offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement, with only one day per week required in the Dudley office and the remaining four days working remotely.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings for structural and secondary steelwork projects.

• Create fabrication, manufacturing, workshop, and general arrangement drawings.

• Develop designs for steel frames, beams, support steelwork, industrial gates, platforms, staircases, and bespoke fabricated structures.

• Prepare material schedules and supporting manufacturing documentation.

• Liaise with workshop, production, and project teams to ensure designs are practical, efficient, and buildable.

• Conduct site surveys and attend project sites when required to obtain measurements and technical information.

• Support projects from initial design through to manufacture and installation.

• Ensure all drawings comply with project specifications and relevant industry standards.

Candidate Requirements

• Previous experience as a CAD Technician, CAD Draughtsperson, CAD Designer, Steel Detailer, or similar role within a steel fabrication or construction environment.

• Strong understanding of structural steelwork, secondary steelwork, and fabrication processes.

• Experience producing fabrication and workshop drawings for steel structures and construction-related projects.

• Ability to interpret engineering, architectural, and construction drawings.

• Comfortable carrying out site surveys and liaising with site teams when required.

• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote-working environment.

CAD Software

The business is flexible regarding software and is prepared to accommodate the right candidate. Experience with any of the following would be beneficial:

• AutoCAD

• Tekla Structures

• Advance Steel

• SolidWorks

• Autodesk Inventor

• Similar 2D or 3D CAD packages

Relevant steelwork and fabrication experience is considered more important than experience with a specific software package.

Package

• £35,000 per annum
