Hours: Monday to Friday (Rotating Shift Pattern)
We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and hardworking School Caretaker / Maintenance Operative to join our dedicated site team at a busy school in Ipswich. This is a full-time position responsible for ensuring the school premises remain safe, secure, clean, and well-maintained for pupils, staff, and visitors.
Working HoursThe role operates on a rotating shift pattern:
- Early Shift: 6:30am – 2:30pm
- Middle Shift: 8:00am – 4:00pm
- Late Shift: 12:00pm – 8:00pm
- Early Shift: 6:30am – 2:00pm
- Middle Shift: 8:00am – 3:30pm
- Late Shift: 12:00pm – 7:30pm
- Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs.
- Undertaking basic plumbing, decorating, carpentry, and general handyman duties.
- Monitoring the condition of the school site and reporting any defects or safety concerns.
- Ensuring the premises and grounds are kept clean, tidy, and presentable.
- Assisting with room setups for school events, meetings, and examinations.
- Conducting regular health and safety checks across the site.
- Managing waste disposal and recycling arrangements.
- Monitoring contractors working on site and ensuring compliance with school procedures.
- Supporting emergency call-outs and responding promptly to site issues when required.
- Maintaining security of the premises, including alarm systems, gates, and access control.
- Assisting with seasonal duties such as gritting pathways during adverse weather conditions.
- Have previous caretaking, facilities, maintenance, or building services experience.
- Be practical, hands-on, and capable of working independently.
- Possess good knowledge of general building maintenance and health & safety procedures.
- Have excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Be dependable, flexible, and able to prioritise workloads effectively.
- Take pride in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.
- Enhanced DBS Certificate issued within the last 12 months (mandatory).
- Right to work in the UK.
- Previous experience in a caretaking, maintenance, facilities, or similar role.
- Ability to work across all shift patterns on a rota basis.
