About the Role

We are looking for a Catering Assistant to join our dedicated team in Meldreth, North Royston.

You will be working in a residential care environment, supporting the catering function that provides meals for children, young people, and adults with a range of complex needs. This is a rewarding role where you’ll contribute directly to the comfort and wellbeing of the people we support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals in line with menus and dietary requirements.

  • Support with special diets, including textured, allergen-free, and medically indicated diets as instructed.

  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen, dining areas, and food storage areas, following food safety regulations.

  • Help with washing up, cleaning equipment, and keeping work areas tidy.

  • Assist with stock rotation, basic ordering, and safe storage of food.

  • Work closely with care staff to ensure meals are served in a way that supports dignity, choice, and independence.

  • Follow all health & safety and infection control procedures at all times.

What We’re Looking For

  • A caring and compassionate attitude, with a genuine desire to support children and young people.

  • An interest in catering, food preparation, and kitchen work.

  • Good teamwork skills and the ability to communicate well with colleagues and residents.

  • Reliable, flexible, and willing to learn.

  • Experience in catering, hospitality, or working in a care environment is desirable but not essential – full training will be provided.

  • Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.
