Job Title: Charity Shop Manager 

Location: Bangor, Northern Ireland

Employment Type: Full-time permanent

Salary: £33,500 DOE

Job Overview 

We are seeking a motivated and organised Charity Shop Manager to oversee the daily operations of our retail shop. This role is responsible for maximising sales, managing volunteers, and ensuring the shop provides a welcoming and positive experience for customers while supporting the charity’s mission.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the shop, ensuring it is clean, safe, and well-presented 
  • Manage stock donations, including sorting, pricing, and displaying items effectively 
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and retail standards 
  • Handle cash, operate the till, and complete daily financial reconciliations 

Sales & Performance 

  • Maximise income through effective merchandising and pricing strategies 
  • Monitor sales performance and implement improvements where needed 
  • Organise promotions, seasonal displays, and special sales events 

Volunteer Management 

  • Recruit, train, and support a team of volunteers 
  • Create staff/volunteer rotas to ensure adequate shop coverage 
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and motivating team environment 

Customer Service 

  • Deliver excellent customer service and ensure a welcoming atmosphere 
  • Handle customer enquiries, complaints, and feedback professionally 

Administration 

  • Maintain accurate records of sales, donations, and Gift Aid (if applicable) 
  • Liaise with the charity’s head office or regional management 
  • Ensure proper documentation and reporting procedures are followed 

Essential Skills & Experience 

  • Previous experience in retail, customer service, or a supervisory role 
  • Strong organisational and time management skills 
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team, including volunteers 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Basic numeracy and IT skills 

Desirable 

  • Experience working or volunteering in the charity sector 
  • Knowledge of visual merchandising 
  • Experience managing stock or donations
