Civil Design Engineer
Leeds
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Civil Design Engineer to join one of the world's leading engineering and design Consultancies in its Leeds office. Working as part of a nationally recognised Building Design team, you will contribute to the delivery of high-profile projects across sectors including education, defence, aviation, public realm and commercial development, helping to shape the infrastructure that supports some of the UK's most complex and prestigious schemes.
Joining a growing Civil Engineering team, you will work closely alongside Civil Engineers, Structural Engineers, Architects, Building Services Engineers and other multidisciplinary specialists to deliver coordinated, sustainable and technically robust design solutions. The team supports projects from early feasibility and concept development through to detailed design, technical approvals and construction support, offering excellent exposure across the full project lifecycle.
The role will see you contributing to the delivery of a diverse range of civil infrastructure schemes associated with major building developments. Typical projects include the design and coordination of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), drainage networks, external works, hard landscaping, access roads, car parks, utilities and associated infrastructure. You will also support planning submissions, statutory approvals and technical consents, helping to ensure projects progress efficiently through each stage of delivery.
Working within a technically focused design environment, you will be responsible for producing high-quality engineering designs in accordance with relevant standards, codes and best practice guidance. The role offers involvement in a broad range of civil engineering disciplines including drainage, earthworks, access and accessibility, construction logistics and public realm infrastructure, providing an excellent platform for developing both technical and project delivery skills.
As part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will be trusted to manage your own workload while working closely with colleagues across multiple disciplines to deliver efficient and practical engineering solutions. You will also contribute to projects delivered in accordance with BIM standards, Digital Plans of Work and project-specific BIM Execution Plans, gaining exposure to the latest approaches in digital engineering and project delivery.
Innovation is a key focus across the business, and you will have the opportunity to work with emerging technologies including digital engineering, automation and parametric design tools. The Consultancy is committed to developing future talent and places significant emphasis on mentoring, training and professional development, making this an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Engineer looking to broaden their experience and progress towards Chartership.
Candidates should hold a Degree in Civil Engineering, although those with an HND or equivalent industry experience will also be considered. You should ideally be working towards Chartered status with the ICE and possess experience in the design and analysis of drainage systems, highways, external works, utilities, earthworks and associated infrastructure projects, together with a good understanding of current UK design standards and approval processes.
Experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D is essential, while knowledge of drainage design software such as InfoDrainage or Flow would be highly advantageous. The ability to undertake Swept Path Analysis within AutoCAD would be beneficial, whilst exposure to Revit, BIM 360 and wider BIM environments would also be welcomed. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are important as you will be involved in technical reporting, coordination with multidisciplinary teams and engagement with clients and stakeholders.
In return, you will benefit from a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package, structured training and development programme, flexible and hybrid working arrangements, generous holiday allowance and the opportunity to work alongside some of the industry's leading engineers on projects that make a lasting impact on communities and the built environment.
