Location: Barton Under Needwood
Rate: £18.99 per hour (PAYE) | £25.89 Umbrella
Contract: 6 Month Contract or Permanent

Hours: 40 hours P/W
• Monday – Thursday: 7:00am – 4:00pm
• Friday: 7:00am – 1:00pm
Overtime: Available

The Opportunity

Join a well-established rail engineering team working out of a brand new purpose built facility on critical components that keep the UK moving. This is a great opportunity for a skilled CNC Machinist looking for stability, great hours, and a long-term career path in a safety-critical industry.

The Role

You’ll be at the heart of precision machining, producing and restoring high-value rail components to tight tolerances and exacting standards. This is a hands-on, varied role where quality and attention to detail are key.

Key responsibilities include:
• CNC and manual machining (lathes & milling)
• Working from engineering drawings and procedures
• Precision inspection using metrology equipment
• Fault finding and solving machining challenges
• Maintaining high quality and safety standards
• Supporting 5S and continuous improvement
• Assisting and mentoring junior team members

Required Experience & Skills

Essential:
• CNC machining experience (rail, automotive, or similar)
• Strong mechanical mindset with hands-on ability
• Confident working to tight tolerances
• Good math's and measurement skills (metric & imperial)
• Self-motivated and able to work independently
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, physical environment

Desirable:
• Mentoring or training experience
• Knowledge of 5S / continuous improvement

Machine Experience

Experience with the below is highly advantageous:

Rottler CNC Equipment
• F98Y, F79A, F69A
• 3 Axis CNC (live tooling)

Typical tasks:
• Reboring and refacing engine blocks
• Line boring bearings and housings
• Sleeving transmission casings
• Reworking engine components
• Basic TPM activities

Crank Grinding
• Robbi REX 2200 RM (Manual / Semi Auto)

Tasks include:
• Grinding crankshaft journals
• Polishing and finishing components
• Wheel dressing and balancing
• TPM activities

Metrology & Inspection

You’ll be working to micron-level tolerances, using:
• Verniers, micrometres (internal & external)
• Dial indicators, height gauges
• Go / No-Go gauges, slip gauges
