We’re working with a leading global engineering and defence organisation to recruit a CNC Machinist into their high-performing manufacturing team in Ampthill. The Role You’ll be working in a precision CNC environment producing complex components for both R&D and production.

  • Set, edit and operate 3, 4 & 5-axis CNC machines
  • Work with Heidenheim and Fanuc controls
  • Prove out new programs, tooling, and fixtures
  • Make offsets and machining adjustments to optimise performance
  • Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Carry out inspection using gauges and review CMM data
  • Support process development and tooling improvements
  • Work closely with engineering to refine machining methods
  • Apply problem-solving techniques to improve output and quality

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong background in multi-axis CNC machining (3/4/5 axis)
  • Experience with Fanuc and/or Heidenheim controls
  • Confident in program editing, setup, and prove-out
  • Able to work from detailed engineering drawings
  • Experience with inspection and quality control processes
  • A proactive, solutions-driven mindset
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing / 6S principles

Nice to Have

  • Milling experience
  • Exposure to R&D, prototype or low-volume manufacturing
  • Experience creating process documentation or work instructions
  • Continuous improvement / process optimisation experience
