We’re working with a leading global engineering and defence organisation to recruit a CNC Machinist into their high-performing manufacturing team in Ampthill. The Role You’ll be working in a precision CNC environment producing complex components for both R&D and production.
- Set, edit and operate 3, 4 & 5-axis CNC machines
- Work with Heidenheim and Fanuc controls
- Prove out new programs, tooling, and fixtures
- Make offsets and machining adjustments to optimise performance
- Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Carry out inspection using gauges and review CMM data
- Support process development and tooling improvements
- Work closely with engineering to refine machining methods
- Apply problem-solving techniques to improve output and quality
What We’re Looking For
- Strong background in multi-axis CNC machining (3/4/5 axis)
- Experience with Fanuc and/or Heidenheim controls
- Confident in program editing, setup, and prove-out
- Able to work from detailed engineering drawings
- Experience with inspection and quality control processes
- A proactive, solutions-driven mindset
- Understanding of lean manufacturing / 6S principles
Nice to Have
- Milling experience
- Exposure to R&D, prototype or low-volume manufacturing
- Experience creating process documentation or work instructions
- Continuous improvement / process optimisation experience
