Placr Recruitment is working with a leading engineering and manufacturing business in East Sussex to recruit an experienced CNC Setter / Operator (Miller).

The Role

As a CNC Setter / Operator, you will be responsible for setting and operating CNC milling machines to manufacture components to exact engineering specifications and drawings.

You will work with both proven and unproven programs, producing high-quality components while maintaining efficiency, accuracy and on-time delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Set and operate CNC milling machines, run proven and unproven CNC programs, adjust tool and work offsets, produce first-off components to drawing specification, read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T, inspect components, identify machining issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience setting and operating CNC milling machines
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and geometric tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling and materials
  • Experience using FANUC, Heidenhain and/or Siemens controls
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Commitment to producing high-quality work and meeting deadlines

Desirable Experience

  • Experience machining chambers and fabricated components
  • Offline programming experience
  • AlphaCAM experience
  • Faro Arm inspection experience
  • Manual turning experience
  • CNC turning experience
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office

Qualifications

  • Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent machining background
  • Minimum 5 years' machining experience preferred
  • Additional engineering or manufacturing qualifications advantageous
