Our client is a premier contractor specializing in medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) cable installation, termination services, busbar, and containment solutions. Headquartered in Ireland, they deliver mission-critical, large-scale infrastructure projects for a elite tier of global customers across Europe and beyond. Their expertise spans booming, future-proof industry sectors including hyperscale data centers, pharmaceuticals, renewables, power generation, and critical infrastructure.
As Commercial Director, you will bridge the gap between operational execution and corporate strategy, ensuring all business units align perfectly with overarching corporate objectives. This is an executive-level appointment requiring in-depth knowledge of large-scale construction commercial activities, a heavy seat in board-level decision-making, and direct reporting to the Board of Directors.
You will lead, motivate, and upscale a high-performing commercial team, implementing regular two-way reviews across all functions to maximize potential, support professional development, and drive absolute commercial excellence.
Commercial Director Responsibilities:
- Partner closely with the Operations and Financial Directors to assess and optimize contract profitability, ensuring a highly sustainable, risk-managed portfolio of current and future projects.
- Oversee complex project submissions, drive competitive bidding strategies, and develop watertight agreements that optimize profitability and minimize liability.
- Act as the primary point of contact for international client escalations, steering committee interactions, and joint venture partner relationship management on major global projects.
- Formally lead the Estimating and Commercial teams, implementing industry best practices and cutting-edge commercial technologies to maximize efficiency.
- Dive deep into complex financial, operational, and contractual data to support informed, board-level decision-making.
- Conduct robust commercial reviews of potential new projects, advise the board on structural risks, lead market analysis efforts, and actively monitor global competitor activity to identify strategic business opportunities.
- Ensure all international commercial activities strictly comply with bespoke contracts, internal procedures, and cross-border legislations governing large-scale construction operations.
Commercial Director Requirements:
- Chartered Surveyor status is essential (MRICS / FRICS or equivalent).
- Proven, demonstrable experience in a senior commercial leadership or executive role within a fast-paced, project-driven construction environment (ideally specialist sub-contracting or tier-1 MEP).
- A profound background in commercial strategy, high-value contract negotiation, international contract law, and risk mitigation.
- A proven track record of successfully managing relationships with international clients and executing major, mission-critical infrastructure projects.
- Inspiring leadership capability with direct experience managing, mentoring, and scaling high-performing commercial and estimating functions.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder-management skills with the natural gravitas to influence, challenge, and guide decisions at the executive board level.
