About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Committee Services Manager to lead and coordinate the work of our Committee Services Team. This is a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of efficient, high-quality democratic support to the Council’s decision-making and scrutiny processes.
The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting transparency, good governance, and compliance with statutory and constitutional requirements across all council meetings, panels, boards, and working groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Committee Services Team, ensuring effective and customer-focused service delivery
- Support and oversee Council and Cabinet meetings, ensuring appropriate governance arrangements are in place
- Provide expert advice to officers on decision-making processes, including the Scheme of Delegations and legal compliance
- Ensure all decisions are made in accordance with relevant legislation and the Council’s Constitution
- Plan, organise, and strategically direct committee services to meet the democratic needs of the Council
- Support a range of meetings, including partnerships, internal working groups, and other governance bodies
- Oversee the administration of Members’ Allowances and maintain registers, including Gifts and Hospitality
- Support the Monitoring Officer and contribute to governance-related duties
- Work proactively with elected Members to support and develop their roles in line with good governance principles
- Drive continuous improvement across committee services
About You
You will be an experienced governance or committee services professional with strong leadership skills and a thorough understanding of local government processes.
You will bring:
- Extensive experience supporting committees or democratic services
- Strong knowledge of local government governance and decision-making frameworks
- Excellent organisational and leadership skills
- Ability to advise senior officers and elected Members with confidence
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and transparency
- A proactive approach to service development and improvement
