Our client, a leading provider of facilities services in the UK, is seeking a Construction Director to provide strategic leadership across a large, multi-site government construction programme.
This is a senior, high-impact leadership role with responsibility for overseeing complex construction activity across multiple workstreams and project values. The position plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient and commercially successful delivery across a diverse portfolio of projects.
Working closely with the Head of Projects, the Construction Director will help set standards, lead and support project teams, and ensure construction projects are delivered in a structured, consistent and strategic manner, aligned with wider organisational objectives.
Job Description
The Construction Director will lead high-value, complex and multi-project construction programmes through the full project lifecycle, from early scoping and planning through to final handover.
As a member of the senior leadership team, the role will involve close collaboration with internal departments and project teams, ensuring all construction activity meets performance targets, quality standards and strategic goals.
The role will oversee delivery across three key divisions:
- Capex Projects - project values up to £1 million
- Minor Works - lower-value projects with fast turnaround requirements
- Construction Projects - full strip-out and rebuild programmes (including flooring, layouts and full refurbishments), typically valued between £5 million and £20 million
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Projects in leading large-scale construction projects from inception through to handover
- Oversee multiple concurrent projects, ensuring delivery is safe, on time and within agreed budgets
- Provide senior leadership and direction to project teams and project managers across all construction divisions
- Act as the primary interface between site-based teams and senior leadership stakeholders
- Set, maintain and embed consistent project standards, processes and best practice
- Manage budgets, risks, resources and delivery timelines across assigned programmes
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, quality and regulatory standards at all times
- Track progress, report on performance, and maintain accurate project data and systems
Person Specification
- Proven experience operating at Construction Director level or equivalent within a Tier 1 construction environment
- Extensive senior management experience delivering multi-million-pound construction or infrastructure projects
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to manage risk, performance and profitability
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement and crisis management skills
- In-depth knowledge of construction methodologies, regulations and building standards
- Relevant professional chartership (e.g. CIOB, RICS, ICE)
- Ability to attain BPSS clearance, with SC clearance required at a later stage
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel across UK sites as required
