Overview

We are seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to join our team on a permanent basis, responsible for the management and delivery of multiple public sector construction projects. This role requires a proactive professional with strong public sector experience, capable of overseeing projects from pre‑construction through to completion while ensuring excellence in safety, quality, programme, and commercial performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for the end‑to‑end delivery of multiple public sector projects, ensuring safety, programme, quality, and commercial objectives are achieved
  • Lead pre‑construction and programming activities, including planning, sequencing, and resource coordination
  • Oversee and coordinate project teams, including site managers and subcontractors, ensuring effective collaboration and delivery
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, fostering strong working relationships and maintaining clear, consistent communication throughout the project lifecycle
  • Monitor progress across multiple live projects, addressing risks, variations, and programme challenges proactively
  • Maintain contractual compliance in line with public sector frameworks, procedures, and governance requirements
  • Support the development, performance, and ongoing capability of operational staff and site teams
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor performance, quality standards, and health & safety compliance
  • Manage commercial elements including contracts, valuations, variations, and final accounts
  • Work closely with internal teams, consultants, and stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes across all projects

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience in a Contracts Manager or similar senior delivery role
  • Strong public sector construction background (e.g. education, healthcare, local authority, or framework projects)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Solid understanding of construction contracts (e.g. JCT)
  • Strong skills in programming, pre‑construction planning, and project coordination
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management capabilities
  • Organised, solutions‑focused, and commercially aware

  • Experience working within public sector frameworks
  • Construction, commercial, or project management qualification
  • A collaborative leadership style with strong mentoring skills
