Cover Supervisor

Protocol Education

Keep classrooms moving, inspire young minds, and no two days will ever be the same.

Looking for a role where every day brings something different?

Whether you're a graduate thinking about a future in teaching, an experienced educator looking for flexibility, or someone with strong classroom experience ready for a new challenge, becoming a Cover Supervisor could be the perfect next step.

We're working with a range of welcoming secondary schools across Barnsley who are looking for confident, reliable Cover Supervisors to step into classrooms and keep learning on track when teachers are away.

Think of yourself as the calm in the storm. The person who walks into a classroom, sets expectations, keeps pupils engaged, and ensures the day runs smoothly.

No planning. No marking. Just great classroom presence and the ability to build positive relationships with young people.

What you'll be doing

As a Cover Supervisor, you'll:

  • Deliver pre-planned lessons across a variety of subjects
  • Manage classroom behaviour and create a positive learning environment
  • Support students to stay focused and engaged with their work
  • Take registers and follow school procedures
  • Build confidence working with pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Gain valuable experience in a range of school settings

Every day is different. One lesson you could be supporting a science class, the next helping students tackle history, English or PE.

What we're looking for

You don't need to be a qualified teacher to succeed in this role.

We're keen to hear from people who:

  • Have experience working with young people in any capacity
  • Are confident leading groups and communicating clearly
  • Can think on their feet and remain calm under pressure
  • Have strong behaviour management skills or transferable experience
  • Are organised, professional, and reliable
  • Have a genuine interest in education and supporting young people

Experience in schools is helpful, but we also welcome applications from:

  • Graduates
  • Sports coaches
  • Youth workers
  • Tutors
  • Teaching Assistants
  • Instructors
  • Drama leaders
  • Residential support workers
  • Anyone with experience managing groups of young people
Why become a Cover Supervisor?

For many people, this role is the perfect stepping stone into teaching.

You'll gain:

✅ Hands-on classroom experience

✅ Exposure to different schools and teaching styles

✅ A chance to build confidence before teacher training

✅ Flexible working options that fit around your lifestyle

✅ Valuable experience for PGCE, SCITT or teacher training applications

And perhaps most importantly, you'll make a real difference to students' learning and confidence every single day.
