I am working with a longstanding client who have a three-month requirement for an experienced Cyber Security Project Manager to join their team. This is a high-impact role where you'll be at the heart of a major cyber security programme, driving critical projects that protect data, systems and reputation. Working closely with a senior Programme Manager, you'll own delivery, governance and risk across multiple workstreams while navigating demanding stakeholders and complex regulatory requirements.
You will lead end-to-end delivery of cyber security projects, ensuring they are planned, governed and executed to meet time, cost and quality expectations. Acting as the Programme Manager's right hand, you will provide clear oversight across the programme, manage interdependencies and proactively address risks and issues. Your work will directly support regulatory compliance, strengthen security posture and enable the business to operate safely and securely.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, structure and manage multiple cyber security projects using appropriate Agile or waterfall methodologies to achieve agreed outcomes.
- Maintain robust project governance, including RAID logs, status reporting, decision tracking and change control across all assigned workstreams.
- Provide clear, concise upwards reporting to the Programme Manager and senior stakeholders, highlighting progress, risks, issues and required decisions.
- Coordinate and lead cross-functional project teams, ensuring tasks are understood, prioritised and delivered to schedule.
- Identify, assess and manage project risks and issues, driving mitigation plans and escalating where necessary to protect delivery timelines and quality.
- Ensure all projects align with relevant regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g. GDPR, UK data protection) and internal security policies.
- Manage stakeholder expectations, resolve conflicts and maintain strong relationships with technical, business and external parties.
- Take ownership of delivery challenges, proactively identifying solutions and driving actions to keep projects on track.
Key Requirements
- Proven experience as a Project Manager delivering complex cyber security projects in a regulated or security-focused environment.
- Strong project governance expertise, including RAID management, reporting frameworks and structured decision-making processes.
- Demonstrable experience managing demanding senior stakeholders and providing clear, confident upwards reporting.
- Hands-on experience delivering projects using both Agile and waterfall methodologies, with the ability to select and apply the most suitable approach.
- Solid understanding of regulatory and compliance frameworks relevant to cyber security (e.g. GDPR, UK data protection).
- Strong risk awareness with a track record of proactively identifying, assessing and managing project risks and issues.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to translate complex technical topics into clear business language.
- Proven ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining high levels of accountability and ownership.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working as part of a large-scale security transformation or multi-project cyber security programme.
- Background in telecoms, technology or other data-intensive sectors.
- Familiarity with common security technologies, controls and frameworks to support informed project decision-making.
- Experience managing third-party suppliers or partners within security-related projects.
