An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Domestic Abuse Practitioner to join our Domestic Abuse Service. You will be joining a multi-service charity based in Coventry.  In return, we offer a competitive salary of £28,000 p.a. plus on-call payments and a contributory pension scheme.  Annual leave entitlement of 26 days plus bank holidays.

What we do:

The charity has a fully trained staff team providing Supported Accommodation and a comprehensive support package to survivors of domestic abuse. We have an on site Children's Nursery that provides full day care for pre-school children.

We are looking for a reliable and committed individual who is able to:

Offer a high quality service to individuals living in our supported accommodation service, supporting them to achieve and sustain independent living, through one to one and group work delivery.

Be responsible for managing a caseload for people who are accessing the safe accommodation service.

Provide a resettlement service for service users that have transitioned into their own accommodation.

Act as a lead within the service for a specific under-represented group (e.g. Global Majority, Males, LGBTQ+, older people, people with care and support needs).

The successful candidate will have:

  • Extensive experience in the related area of work and willingness to work towards a qualification.
  • Experience of working with vulnerable individuals and children.
  • Experience of assessing the needs and risks of vulnerable people.
  • Experience of one to one work and carrying a caseload.
  • Experience of working in partnership with a range of different agencies.
  • Experience of record keeping and report writing.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the difficulties faced by vulnerable people.
  • Knowledge of best practice in relation to safeguarding adults and children.
  • Understanding and passion for the work of Valley House.
  • Ability to deliver group work programmes.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and on own initiative.
  • Competent in the use of IT tools, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Additional requirements:

  • Ability to work flexible hours with a flexible approach. 
  • To take part in an out of hours on-call rota with other staff. 
  • Be mobile and able to travel city wide at short notice (car driver with a UK license) 
  • Candidates who are not car drivers, due to a disability, will be considered.

This post requires a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check.

The hours of work are 37.5 hours per week.
