Data Protection Officer (DPO)

We're working with a respected public-sector organisation seeking an experienced Data Protection Officer (DPO) to lead and strengthen their data protection and information governance framework.

This is a key role where you'll act as the organisation's trusted advisor on all data protection matters-providing practical, hands-on guidance and ensuring compliance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

As the DPO, you'll play a central role in supporting the organisation to confidently manage data risks, make informed decisions, and maintain public trust.

You will:

• Advise on data protection queries, information disclosure, and ICO-related risks
• Provide clear guidance on what information can and cannot be shared
• Review and enhance existing data protection processes, identifying any gaps
• Support with information governance, including access to records, complaints, and contractual data matters
• Help shape the organisation's understanding of data protection workload and ongoing support needs
• Act as a key point of contact for regulators including the ICO
• Deliver pragmatic, easily understood advice to managers and internal teams
• Oversee Subject Access Requests (SARs) and data-related complaints
• Promote a strong culture of compliance, accountability, and good data practices

We're looking for a confident, pragmatic specialist who can quickly assess current processes and provide hands-on support.

You'll ideally have:

• Experience as a Data Protection Officer or in a senior data protection / information governance role
• Strong working knowledge of UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018
• A recognised qualification (e.g. CIPP/E, CIPM, GDPR Practitioner, or equivalent)
• Proven ability to advise senior stakeholders and influence decision-making
• Experience dealing with ICO enquiries, compliance issues, and data breaches
• A practical, solutions-focused approach-not just theoretical knowledge

• Salary aligned with the public sector range (£30k-£50k), with this role competitively positioned at £44k-£48k
