Draftsperson
Girling Jones Ltd
Heavy Civils & Earthworks (Contract) Major Infrastructure Project
The Opportunity
If you’re the type of Draughtsperson who takes pride in producing accurate drawings first time — not simply moving lines on a screen — this opportunity deserves your attention.
We’re seeking an experienced Contract Draughtsperson / CAD Technician to support delivery on a major heavy civil engineering project near Bridgwater.
This is a long-term scheme running through to 2027/28, offering genuine continuity and the chance to become a key part of a high-performing project team.
The Project
This is a large, multi-phase infrastructure development delivering complex civil engineering works, including:
- Sheet piling
- Major earthworks
- River realignments
- Bridges and viaducts
The Role
You’ll play a key role supporting engineering and delivery teams by producing, updating, and maintaining accurate drawings across the project.
This is not a back-office role. You’ll work closely with engineers and site teams to ensure drawings reflect what is actually happening on site.
Key responsibilities include:
- Producing and updating construction drawings and as-built records
- Interpreting and implementing engineer mark-ups and redlines
- Supporting engineers with temporary and permanent works detailing
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date drawing registers
- Ensuring all drawings reflect latest revisions and site changes
- Working closely with site engineers to capture as-built information
- Assisting with quality assurance and document control
- Supporting coordination across multiple work sections
We’re looking for a Draughtsperson who understands civils — not just CAD.
You’ll likely have experience on major infrastructure or heavy civils projects and be comfortable operating in a fast-paced, site-led environment.
You’ll bring:
- Based within one hour of Bridgwater
- Proven experience as a CAD Technician / Draughtsperson in civil engineering
- Strong AutoCAD skills (essential)
- Experience on earthworks, piling, RC, or infrastructure projects
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and redlines accurately
- Strong attention to detail and pride in producing quality work
- Confidence liaising with engineers and site teams
- Ability to manage multiple drawing packages and deadlines
- Civil 3D or BIM experience
- Previous experience producing as-built drawings on live projects
- £350 – £400 per day (PAYE plus holiday pay)
- Long-term freelance role with excellent continuity
- Opportunity to work on a high-profile and technically interesting project
If you’re a Draughtsperson who wants to be part of a major civils project — not detached from it — this is a genuine opportunity where your work will directly influence delivery.
