Job Title: Early Years Teaching Assistant 

Location: Caerphilly

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, experienced and reflective Early Years ASD Teaching Assistant to join our infant team on a maternity cover basis starting 18 May 2026. This role will run until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of extending into the following academic year.

This position requires a Teaching Assistant who is confident supporting children with profound Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and who is able to help create a nurturing, responsive learning environment where every child can thrive.

We are particularly interested in individuals who value child-led learning and who bring a thoughtful, holistic approach to early years and infant education.

Please note: This role requires previous experience supporting children within an Early Years, Infant or Primary setting, particularly those with additional learning needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support engaging, child-centred learning experiences
  • Provide tailored support for pupils with profound ASD through responsive and adaptive strategies
  • Help create a safe, inclusive and trauma-informed learning environment
  • Work closely with teachers, support staff and external professionals to meet individual learning needs
  • Build strong, supportive relationships with children from diverse and complex backgrounds, including looked-after children
  • Assist with personal care, communication and emotional regulation needs where required
  • Contribute positively to the wider life and ethos of the school

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working within a Primary, Infant or Early Years setting
  • Significant experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Strong knowledge and practical understanding of the Froebelian approach and child-led learning
  • A trauma-informed approach to supporting behaviour and wellbeing
  • Experience working with looked-after children and pupils from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent communication, empathy and collaboration skills
  • Relevant qualifications in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare, Education or a related field (desirable)

  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • EWC registration (or willingness to register before starting)
