About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an EL6 Approved Supervisor to join a specialist engineering organisation delivering Electrical & Instrumentation projects across gas transmission and distribution infrastructure, hazardous area installations, and industrial environments.
This position is ideally suited to an experienced E&I professional with a strong electrical background, extensive gas industry experience, and proven supervisory capabilities. You will be responsible for leading site teams, ensuring safe delivery of installation and maintenance activities, and maintaining the highest standards of quality, compliance, and operational excellence across critical infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
Site Supervision & Project Delivery
- Supervise and undertake Electrical & Instrumentation installation activities on operational gas and industrial sites.
- Lead site teams and subcontractors to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.
- Coordinate site activities to minimise disruption to operational facilities.
- Monitor progress, quality, and productivity across multiple work fronts.
- Support project managers with planning, resource allocation, and delivery activities.
- Carry out and supervise electrical rewires, upgrades, modifications, and new installations.
- Install and maintain electrical and instrumentation systems within hazardous area environments.
- Support commissioning, testing, energisation, and handover activities.
- Ensure all installation work complies with current regulations, standards, and specifications.
- Identify and resolve technical issues encountered during project delivery.
- Promote and maintain a positive safety culture across all site activities.
- Ensure compliance with Permit to Work (PTW) systems, site rules, and safe systems of work.
- Review and implement Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Conduct site safety briefings and toolbox talks.
- Report hazards, near misses, and safety observations in accordance with company procedures.
- Ensure compliance with ATEX/DSEAR requirements and hazardous area working practices.
- Interpret, review, and red-line electrical drawings and technical documentation.
- Monitor workmanship standards and ensure quality requirements are achieved.
- Carry out inspections and support testing activities where required.
- Maintain accurate site records, progress reports, and completion documentation.
- Liaise with engineering teams to ensure technical queries are resolved efficiently.
- Act as a key interface between site teams, project management, clients, and operational stakeholders.
- Attend site meetings and provide updates on project progress and site activities.
- Coordinate with operational personnel to ensure safe execution of works on live assets.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients and contractors.
- Proven experience supervising Electrical & Instrumentation installation activities.
- Significant experience working within gas transmission and distribution environments.
- Experience on operational utility and hazardous area sites.
- Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems and installation practices.
- Experience working under Permit to Work systems and strict site safety procedures.
- Demonstrable ability to manage multiple work activities while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
- Experience within industrial, utilities, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, energy, or commercial sectors.
- City & Guilds 2382 – 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing.
- BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Operations & Maintenance Engineering (or equivalent).
- CompEx Ex01-04 Certification.
- SCO Core.
- SCO91 Competent Person.
- EUSR Registration.
- SMSTS.
- EL6 Authorisation.
- EL96 LV Authorisation.
- Authorised Person Electrical (APE) status.
- Additional gas industry competencies and network operator authorisations.
- First Aid at Work.
- Temporary Works or additional supervisory qualifications.
