Electrical Design engineer

We are seeking an Electrical Designer to join a growing engineering team working at the forefront of fusion technology. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design, installation, and commissioning of advanced electrical systems supporting cutting-edge scientific and industrial equipment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality electrical design documentation, creating and maintaining schematics, and supporting the delivery of complex electrical projects. The role offers exposure to a diverse range of applications, from small electrical assemblies through to large-scale industrial machinery and infrastructure installations.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce electrical design documentation in accordance with company procedures and relevant international standards.
- Create and maintain complete technical documentation packages, including:
- Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Load schedules
- Cable schedules
- Terminal schedules
- OEM manuals and supporting datasheets
- Develop and update electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Support the documentation of both existing and new electrical systems and projects.
- Produce a variety of electrical drawings, including:
- Single-line diagrams
- Wiring diagrams
- Control panel layouts
- Building and installation layouts showing cable management and power distribution arrangements
- Modify existing designs in accordance with established change control processes.
- Reverse engineer existing electrical systems and generate accurate drawing packages.
- Support the integration of OEM equipment using manuals, I/O schedules, and technical specifications.
- Assist with the creation of device lists, electrical load schedules, and distribution board schedules.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure project requirements are met.
- Participate in technical design reviews and contribute to the specification of electrical and control system components.
- Provide practical support during equipment assembly, testing, commissioning, and fault-finding activities where required.
Essential Requirements
- HNC, HND, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience creating and interpreting:
- Electrical schematics
- Wiring diagrams
- Single-line diagrams
- Technical documentation packages
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and Autodesk Vault.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles.
- Experience using electrical test and measurement equipment to support troubleshooting and commissioning activities.
- Practical, hands-on approach with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Knowledge of electrical design standards including:
- BS 7671
- IEC 60204
- IEC 61439
- Awareness of functional safety standards such as:
- ISO 13849
- IEC 61508
- Understanding of quality management systems, particularly ISO 9001.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 applications, including Teams, Planner, and OneDrive.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform tools, including Power Automate and Power BI.
