To support this growth, we are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join their team—playing a key role in the safe, efficient, and future-focused operation of critical HV and LV systems across the site.
Purpose of the Role
You will take the lead in planning, developing, commissioning, and maintaining high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems across the facility. Working closely with the Operations & Maintenance team, you'll ensure equipment is safe, compliant, and operating at optimum performance, taking a hands-on approach to fault finding, diagnostics, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities Electrical Safety & Compliance
- Ensure electrical and instrumentation safety standards are upheld across the site.
- Manage and control HV and LV isolation procedures in line with legislation.
- Maintain compliance with the Electricity at Work Act, Health & Safety at Work Act and DSEAR regulations.
- Lead both planned and reactive maintenance activities, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Carry out HV isolations and support system switching.
- Identify root causes of equipment issues and drive improvements to enhance reliability.
- Support the upkeep and development of DCS, PLC and MCERTS-related systems.
- Plan, develop, and oversee the commissioning of new and modified electrical installations from 11kV down to 100V.
- Produce technical documentation, reports, maintenance manuals and system schematics.
- Ensure new and upgraded systems are effectively handed over to the O&M team with relevant training.
- Prepare annual electrical budgets including running costs and future investment.
- Manage contractor activities across site, ensuring safe, compliant work delivery.
- Research and recommend cost-effective technical solutions.
- Provide rapid response to plant breakdowns, working collaboratively to restore operations.
- Ensure life safety systems—including gas detection, fire alarms, sprinklers and emergency lighting—are maintained to standard.
- Maintain a consistent, fair approach when supporting shift personnel.
- Significant experience working on LV/HV distribution systems within an industrial or facilities environment.
- Proven HV switching experience (circa 10 years).
- Strong working knowledge of motor control systems (DOL, Star/Delta, VSD).
- Solid understanding of BS7671 and cable protection systems.
- Confident in diagnosing and resolving electrical and instrumentation issues.
- Able to work independently while collaborating effectively with multi-discipline teams.
- Competent in training others and maintaining robust documentation.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with an organised and decisive approach.
- Comfortable working under pressure and outside normal hours when required.
- Degree or HNC in Electrical Engineering.
- IEE 16th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Must be a British citizen and able to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance.
