Overview

An established and growing building services contractor is seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to join its pre-construction team. This is a key role within the commercial function, responsible for producing accurate, competitive, and commercially viable electrical estimates across a wide range of projects within the commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, and residential sectors.

You will play a vital part in securing new work, supporting bid submissions, and helping to drive profitability through accurate cost planning and value engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed and accurate electrical estimates from drawings, specifications, and tender documentation
  • Carry out take-offs and produce comprehensive cost breakdowns using estimating software
  • Analyse project requirements to identify risks, opportunities, and scope gaps
  • Obtain and assess quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
  • Liaise closely with suppliers, design teams, project managers, and commercial staff during tender stages
  • Develop competitive tenders while maintaining target margins and commercial awareness
  • Contribute to value engineering proposals to improve cost efficiency and buildability
  • Support tender submissions, clarifications, and handover to delivery teams
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of material costs, labour rates, and market trends
  • Attend site visits and pre/post-tender meetings where required

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience as an Electrical Estimator within an M&E or building services contractor
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems (e.g. containment, lighting, small power, LV distribution, fire alarms)
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications confidently
  • Experience producing accurate take-offs and detailed cost plans
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills with suppliers and internal teams
  • Commercial awareness with a focus on profitability and risk management
  • Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced tendering environment

Desirable

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or similar
  • Experience working on design & build and/or refurbishment projects
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations (e.g. BS7671)
  • Previous experience within an M&E contractor environment
