Salary: £65,000 - £75,000

Summary:
Electrical & Instrumentation (E/I) Engineer responsible for leading and supporting the design, maintenance, and compliance of electrical and control systems across operations. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and regulatory-compliant performance of all E/I systems, with duties including project execution, technical troubleshooting, standards adherence, and functional safety. Requires strong engineering expertise, leadership capability, and a solid background in industrial or process environments, along with the ability to guide teams, manage contractors, and drive continuous improvement in engineering practices.
Role Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, specification, and review of E/I systems for both new installations and modifications to existing infrastructure.
- Deliver technical oversight and troubleshooting support to maintenance and operations teams, ensuring issues are resolved efficiently and safely.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant electrical and instrumentation standards and regulations, including BS7671, ATEX, DSEAR, and IEC standards.
- Act as the technical authority for electrical and control systems, maintaining system integrity and driving continuous improvement.
- Manage interfaces with third-party contractors, vendors, and engineering consultants on E/I scopes of work.
- Develop maintenance strategies for E/I equipment, supporting asset integrity and system reliability.
- Review and produce technical documentation including specifications, drawings, and reports.
- Contribute to capital projects from concept through design, procurement, installation, and commissioning.
- Provide mentoring and technical guidance to technicians.
Key Requirements:
- Degree-qualified in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering (or a closely related discipline).
- Chartered Engineer status or working toward professional registration desirable.
- Strong working knowledge of UK electrical and instrumentation legislation and best practices.
- Demonstrable experience in the design, operation, and maintenance of E/I systems in a process or industrial environment.
- Familiarity with functional safety standards and hazardous area equipment selection and design.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Competence in relevant design and analysis software (e.g. AutoCAD, ETAP, PLC/DCS platforms).
- CompEx certification or similar hazardous area competency.
- Experience in sectors such as chemicals, energy, oil & gas, manufacturing, or utilities.
- Exposure to industrial control systems, automation, and instrumentation networking
