The job:
We are looking for project engineers to engineer and manage electricity distribution system projects at voltages up to and including 132kV, with emphasis on the higher voltages.
The projects will range in size and complexity from small network extensions, through to major substation works, underground cable and overhead line projects ranging in costs from a few thousand to several million pounds.
We are looking for people able to work on their own initiative to lead the engineering management of these projects from project conception through to completion, apply engineering judgement and knowing when to seek specialist input. Projects will be assigned at the conceptual stage and project engineers will be required to manage the engineering design phase through a design team, preparation of work packages/input to contract documents as applicable and managing projects to a fixed timeline and cost. The projects will range from large scale complex single site projects to multi location extensive work programmes over extended periods.
The complexity of projects to be managed will depend on the individual’s experience and particular skill background, for example overhead line works, substation works or voltage level.
The Person:
Applicants should be familiar with electricity distribution and/or transmission systems through previous experience or have a utility project management background. Applicants with transferrable skills from other suitable backgrounds, for example power generation, military engineering or mechanical engineering will be considered.
In addition to a sound technical base, key attributes will be an awareness of industry-based Health and Safety legislation and standards, a strong environmental awareness and a good working knowledge of the ESQCR Regulations 2002.
Site visits and some supervision may be involved so a clean full UK driving licence is essential. Applicants will also be required to demonstrate their right to work in the UK.
Qualifications: Applicants with a minimum of an ONC or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering will be at an advantage. For the more senior roles a minimum of an HNC will be advantageous, but in each case we will consider those who can demonstrate similar skills and knowledge through experience.
IOSH and/or NEBOSH qualification or equivalent would be an advantage.
Location: North of England / Yorkshire / North Lincolnshire; work will be from a nominated base location, though site visits, visits to other office locations will be required, depending upon current projects.
