Electrical Quality Engineer

Belcan Workforce Solutions are currently looking for an Electrical Quality Engineer to support a major project for a Defence establishment in Reading. The post is for an estimated 6 month contract and is paying competitively on a daily basis.

Successful applicants will be required to be Security Cleared prior to appointment and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain UK Security Clearance.

An IR35 assessment for tax purposes is required for this engagement. In order to determine the Limited Company's correct IR35 status, an individual Limited Company assessment will be required.

Description

This is a key quality assurance role, ensuring electrical installations and systems meet stringent safety, compliance, and performance standards.

You will play a pivotal role in upholding Defence safety and quality requirements, working closely with engineering, construction, and commissioning teams to ensure full regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect and verify electrical installations against project specifications and regulatory standards
  • Ensure compliance with nuclear industry quality standards, including ISO 9001 and site‑specific procedures
  • Review electrical drawings, test results, and certification documentation
  • Conduct audits of installation and commissioning activities
  • Support and implement Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
  • Identify non‑conformances and lead root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary teams to resolve quality issues
  • Ensure compliance with UK regulations, including BS 7671 Wiring Regulations
  • Compile and collate Lifetime Quality Records (LTQRs)

Essential Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Recognised electrical qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Installation)
  • City & Guilds 2391 - Inspection & Testing
  • City & Guilds 2382 - 18th Edition
  • Proven experience in an electrical quality, inspection, or commissioning role
  • Strong knowledge of BS 7671 and electrical compliance requirements
  • Experience working in highly regulated environments (e.g. nuclear, defence, oil & gas)

Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of nuclear quality standards and documentation requirements
  • Familiarity with quality tools such as audits, ITPs, and root cause analysis
  • Understanding of safety case requirements and compliance frameworks
  • Knowledge of the Machinery Directive
  • Understanding of BS EN 60204 (Safety of machinery - electrical equipment)
