Electronics Technician – Test & Repair required for electro-mechanical product manufacturing company based in Folkestone, Kent.

This is a great opportunity to become a key member of the small friendly Engineering Team, offering a competitive salary, company bonus structure, 39 hours per week (early finish Fridays!), free parking, tea & coffee and exciting prospects with this highly successful business. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, be competent at soldering and general electronics fault finding, and ideally have experience in a similar role.

Established in 1926, this small but globally reaching business designs and manufactures innovative high quality testing equipment for industry (construction, marine, power, oil & gas etc). 

Role Purpose

The Test & Repair team share two key roles in the business;  

  • Testing & calibration of components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies which form a crucial part of the Quality Assurance Plan. 
  • Repair and re-calibration of customer instruments - vital customer service and a recognised revenue-generation element within the business.

The products involved are a combination of brand-new digital electronics, high voltage electronics (AC or DC, up to ~50kV), underwater corrosion monitoring equipment, low voltage electronics, and the servicing of older analogue electronics.

Responsibilities, Goals & Objectives

Measurement, Test and Calibration.

  • Carry out in-process measurement, test, or calibration according to defined specifications.
  • Prepare & issue test reports & calibration certificates.
  • Maintain test & measurement equipment in good working order and to propose improvements as appropriate.
  • Thoroughly & methodically self-check and confirm that work is carried out without error.

Fault-finding, Diagnosis and Repair

  • Fault-finding of electronic and electromechanical assemblies
  • Diagnosis of problems using test equipment including oscilloscope, multi-meters, etc.
  • Disassembly, repair and reassembly of customer instruments, including testing and quality certification
  • Thorough and methodical approach to work, to ensure quality and functionality of products returned to customers

Person Requirements 

  • Appropriate education including Maths, English and Science subjects
  • Practical ability including assembly of intricate parts, soldering & workshop skills.
  • Computer literate, with appropriate capability in MS Office products.
  • Presentation and Reporting skills, appropriate command of written & spoken English.
  • Working experience in electronics / mechanical assembly or fault-finding.
  • Enthusiasm, Energy & Drive.  Potential to grow with the business.
  • Entitlement to work in the UK.
