The Oyster Partnership

Remote-friendly

A Local Authority is seeking an experienced Employment Lawyer to join its legal services team on a fully remote basis. This is an excellent opportunity to advise on a wide range of employment matters within a large and diverse public sector organisation.

Working closely with HR, senior management and internal departments, you will provide practical and commercially focused legal support across both contentious and non-contentious employment issues.

The Role

The successful candidate will undertake a varied workload which may include:

  • Advising on disciplinary, grievance, capability and sickness absence matters
  • Supporting HR teams on complex employee relations issues
  • Managing Employment Tribunal claims from initial instruction through to hearing
  • Drafting and reviewing employment-related documentation, policies and settlement agreements
  • Advising on redundancy, restructuring and TUPE matters
  • Providing legal support on equality, discrimination and whistleblowing issues
  • Delivering pragmatic and risk-based legal advice to officers and senior stakeholders
  • Instructing and liaising with external counsel where appropriate
  • Keeping up to date with developments in employment legislation and case law

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with demonstrable employment law experience.

You should possess:

  • Strong knowledge of employment law and tribunal procedure
  • Experience handling a broad range of contentious and advisory employment matters
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills
  • The ability to manage competing priorities effectively
  • Confidence advising stakeholders at all levels of seniority
  • A proactive and solution-focused approach to legal support

Previous Local Authority or public sector experience would be beneficial but is not essential for candidates with strong relevant expertise.

  • Varied and high-quality employment law caseload
  • Opportunity to work within a collaborative public sector legal team
