Are you a strategic but hands on Engineering Director with proven working knowledge of both electrical and mechanical systems?

We are seeking a highly competent and motivated Engineering Director to join DS Smith. You will be instrumental in ensuring the continuous, and efficient operation of the plant, equipment and engineering team. 

Location: DS Smith, Kemsley Mill, Sittingbourne, Kent, ME10 2TD

Hours: Monday - Friday 9am till 5pm or 8am till 4pm with 30 mins break

Salary: £500- 600 per day

This is a 6-12 month contract if you are looking for contracting work or this can also be a permanent opportunity offering a salary of £130k 

The Engineering Director is responsible for developing and implementing a site-wide Engineering strategy to drive the continuous improvement of engineering standards and work execution to world-class levels.

The role is responsible for:

  • Site Engineering & Maintenance Standards
  • Asset Management including VA and Lubrication
  • Electrical Services, Safety & Standards
  • Automation Services, Safety & Standards
  • Key Supplier Contract Specification and Management
  • Team of 55

Duties include:

  • Embed Continuous Improvement activities within Engineering Organisation.
  • Provide accurate and detailed financial forecasts and input into the Annual Budget Plan.
  • Able to provide clear, concise and relevant reports to enable the accurate and timely management of business KPIs.
  • Have prime responsibility for the maintenance and refurbishment of spare parts – including roll maintenance, internal workshop standards/activities and externally refurbished plant.
  • Specify and develop high quality maintenance activities to ensure Assets are maintained to World Class levels of Cost & Availability.

They will champion and support the DS Smith Root Cause Failure Analysis Process, implement the application of industry best practice and ensure robust engineering principles and processes adhered to across the site through their leadership approach

Essential requirements:

  • Relevant Engineering Qualifications. Recognised vocational qualification plus minimum of 10yrs experience in continuous production environment or Degree level qualification.

  • Multi-Skilled Expertise: Strong working knowledge of both electrical and mechanical systems, as well as control panels and PLCs.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong diagnostic abilities to identify faults and utilise lean techniques (e.g., 5 Whys) to prevent recurrence.

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing/production environment
