About the Role
Changing Lives - The Red Moor Way
At Red Moor School, we do not just support pupils - we change lives. We meet children where they are, walk with them through the tough moments, and celebrate every success, big or small.
We are looking for an EYFS/KS1 Specialist Teacher who brings heart, expertise, curiosity, and a deep belief that every child can grow when surrounded by the right approaches, people, and environments.
This is a unique and vital role. You will be teaching pupils who may be of KS2 age chronologically, but who require the curriculum, pedagogy, and developmental approaches of EYFS and KS1 to thrive. These are children who need:
- A play-based, exploratory, and sensory-rich learning environment
- Teaching that builds foundational skills in communication, language, early literacy, and numeracy
- A teacher who understands child development and knows how to meet pupils at their developmental stage, not their chronological age
- An adult who sees the potential in every child and creates opportunities for them to experience success, confidence, and joy in learning
You will also lead the introduction and development of Early Reading and Systematic Synthetic Phonics across the school, supporting staff to deliver high-quality phonics instruction and ensuring all pupils have access to a structured, evidence-based approach to reading.
What you will be doing
- Deliver high-quality, developmentally appropriate teaching using EYFS principles and early years pedagogy
- Plan and deliver engaging phonics sessions using a systematic, structured programme
- Create enabling environments that promote independence, curiosity, and active learning
- Build warm, trusting relationships with pupils, helping them feel safe, valued, and ready to learn
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff to ensure the curriculum is tailored to each childs needs
- Lead training and development for staff on phonics, early reading, and EYFS pedagogy
- Use observational assessment and formative assessment to track progress and inform next steps
- Champion the importance of early years approaches, play-based learning, and developmentally appropriate practice
- Celebrate small steps, incremental progress, and every milestone achieved
What you will bring
We are looking for someone who:
- Has Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
- Has GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths
- Has experience of teaching using the EYFS framework and early years pedagogy
- Has a proven track record of delivering systematic synthetic phonics and supporting early readers
- Understands child development and knows how to create environments and experiences that support learning through play
- Has experience working with children with SEMH needs, communication difficulties, and/or developmental delays
- Can build positive, nurturing relationships with pupils and colleagues
- Is patient, creative, and resilient - someone who sees setbacks as part of the learning journey
- Believes in potential, not labels, and does not give up when it gets tough
- Has enthusiasm, energy, and a genuine passion for early childhood education
Desirable: Experience in a specialist or alternative provision setting, Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS), training in trauma-informed practice, or knowledge of sensory integration approaches.
