Family Time Worker – Children & Families Service

We’re recruiting a dedicated Family Time Worker to join a passionate Children and Families team within the Families and Communities service at Staffordshire County Council.

This is a vital role supporting children and their families to maintain and rebuild relationships through safe, structured and therapeutic family time sessions.

? About the Role As a Family Time Worker, you’ll coordinate and facilitate meaningful family time between children and their parents or relatives, often in line with court direction. You’ll play a key part in ensuring these interactions are safe, supportive and child-focused.

You’ll also provide guidance to parents during sessions, helping them to build confidence, improve interactions, and strengthen relationships where appropriate.

This is a hands-on, emotionally rewarding role where no two days are the same.

? Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate family time arrangements for children and families as directed
  • Facilitate therapeutic and supported family time sessions
  • Provide parenting support and guidance during contact sessions
  • Transport children and young people where required
  • Maintain accurate records, reports and case notes
  • Work flexibly, including evenings and weekends when needed
  • Support children’s emotional wellbeing during contact with family members
? What We’re Looking For Experience & Knowledge

  • Experience working directly with children and families in statutory or voluntary settings
  • Understanding of child development and the impact of trauma and stress
  • Awareness of key legislation, policy and guidance in children’s social care
  • Confident use of IT systems and Microsoft packages
Skills & Approach

  • Strong ability to build trusting relationships with children and families
  • Calm and effective in conflict or emotionally challenging situations
  • Confident in delivering interventions and structured support
  • Able to produce clear and accurate written records
  • Committed to restorative and child-centred practice
  • Full driving licence and access to a car (essential)
Qualification

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in working with children and families
