Hourly rate £23.05 PAYE / £30.09 Umbrella per hour

About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance & Income Officer to join a busy public‑sector housing finance team. You will play a key role in supporting income and expenditure activity across temporary accommodation and housing services, ensuring accurate financial records, compliant processing, and effective financial control in a high‑volume, deadline‑driven environment.
This role is ideal for a finance professional with strong local authority or housing experience who enjoys working collaboratively across finance, housing, and supplier teams.
Key Responsibilities
Income & Expenditure Support
- Provide hands‑on support for income and expenditure activity within a local authority or public sector housing environment, ensuring financial transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled.
- Maintain robust financial records, ensuring compliance with internal controls, policies, and agreed deadlines.
- Support account reconciliations, month‑end and year‑end processes, and investigate variances to ensure financial integrity across housing and temporary accommodation accounts.
Purchase‑to‑Pay & Supplier Management
- Process supplier invoices, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely payment in line with financial procedures.
- Raise purchase orders and requisitions, supporting budget holders to ensure correct coding, authorisation, and audit trails.
- Assist with accruals, payments, and financial adjustments, working closely with central finance teams to meet reporting deadlines.
- Liaise confidently with suppliers, internal budget holders, and corporate finance colleagues to resolve invoice queries and discrepancies promptly and professionally.
Financial Systems, Reporting & Administration
- Use corporate finance systems (including Business World / Unit4) to track expenditure, maintain accurate records, and support financial reporting.
- Apply strong MS Excel skills to maintain spreadsheets, produce basic financial reports, monitor budgets, and support reconciliation activity.
- Operate effectively in a high‑volume financial environment, maintaining attention to detail while meeting competing priorities.
- Maintain clear audit trails and financial documentation to support internal and external audit requirements.
About You
You will bring:
- Proven experience working in a local authority or public sector finance or housing environment, supporting income and expenditure activity.
- Demonstrable experience with supplier invoice processing, purchase orders, requisitions, accruals, and payments.
- Confidence liaising with a wide range of stakeholders, including suppliers, budget holders, housing teams, and central finance.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Excel and experience using corporate finance systems such as Business World (Unit4).
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage workloads, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast‑paced setting.
