Pay Rate: up to £65 per hour inside IR35 via umbrella (35 hours per week)

The Major Infrastructure Projects directorate provides major new or upgraded dock, berth and building infrastructure projects to provide facilities for the ship and submarine sustainment programmes at Devonport.
We are seeking an experienced Fire Safety Engineer to provide support to the 10 Dock Fire Safety Lead and Principal Convention Fire Engineer
Role and Responsibilities:
Job Activities include and not limited to:
- Assess the fire safety strategy for the extant subways to meet the following objectives:
- Life safety: To align with the AECOM fire strategy developed for the 10 Dock subways, BS 9999 is proposed as a basis of design to inform a proportionate fire safety strategy that is cognisant of existing conditions and project constraints.
- Nuclear safety: Any additional requirements to meet nuclear safety objectives need to be confirmed by nuclear safety case SQEP. The relevant SFRs and performance criteria to substantiate the SFRs needs to be confirmed and agreed with relevant stakeholders as part of this scope.
- Desktop review of existing fire risk assessment reports, surveys and general arrangement drawings.
- Identify relevant interfaces with other 10 Dock project systems.
- Desirable if safe to undertake - Site visits to existing subways to validate existing state against outcomes from the desktop study.
- Attend meetings with Babcock stakeholders and designers, where relevant to this scope of work.
- Coordination of fire safety design requirement within the Extant Subways system and interfacing systems, where relevant to feasibility stage.
- Deliverable: Produce retrospective fire strategy report for the extant subways, to a level of detail required to inform feasibility stage works and inform later stages of fire strategy design works. The scope of this report is expected to:
- Record the fire safety objectives for the extant subways agreed with relevant stakeholders.
- Assess existing compliance of the extant subways against BS 9999 guidance.
- Identify any departures from the guidance and propose suitable mitigation measures.
- Outline key actions to be addressed at later stages of design.
To be successful in this position:
- Experience in a fire engineer position, accruing the expected qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of excel and the ability to manipulate data accurately
- Good written communication skills
- Be able to take accurate notes of both technical and project management meetings
- Stakeholder engagement, customer relationships (i.e. with Construction, committees, consultants)
- Ensure assigned work activities are delivered timely
- Knowledge of schedules - understand what they are and an ability to interpret them
- Experience of Fire Detection and alarm system guidance with linear heat detection
Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements (this may include obtaining security clearance (SC)
