Foot Mobile Engineer
Nova Hire Recruitment
Job Description
The post holder will be responsible for carrying out plumbing, mechanical and/or electrical repairs, planned preventative maintenance, renewals, and replacements within commercial-type buildings, including schools, children’s centres, and other premises of varying sizes. The work will range from routine reactive repairs and planned maintenance to statutory testing and may include some design and installation activities.
All works must be undertaken in accordance with industry standards (e.g. SGF20, CIBSE), building and statutory regulations, British Standards, and manufacturers’ operating and maintenance manuals. The post holder will be required to use their technical skills and judgement to diagnose compliance and asset failures, determining the most effective solution to resolve repair and maintenance issues.
A key objective of the role is to ensure that properties are maintained to a high standard, minimising disruption to service delivery due to plant failure or building maintenance issues. This role plays a vital part in enabling staff within schools, children’s centres, and other Local Authority properties to focus on their core responsibilities rather than building-related concerns.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS check.
Person Specification
We are seeking a skilled and adaptable professional with experience across at least two Mechanical, Electrical, or Plumbing (MEP) disciplines. Applicants should ideally hold a recognised qualification such as NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds certification and have practical experience in commercial building maintenance, repairs, and installations, preferably within educational or public sector environments.
The successful candidate will be confident in diagnosing building faults, identifying cost-effective solutions, and coordinating follow-on works where necessary. Strong communication and customer service skills are essential, as you will be representing the Local Authority's Facilities Management service, ensuring customers and colleagues are kept informed and that work is delivered efficiently, professionally, and safely.
You will be comfortable using technology to optimise building performance, manage workloads, and accurately record maintenance activities. A sound understanding of statutory compliance, health and safety legislation, and safe systems of work is essential. The ability to interpret technical drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and identify building defects is also required.
Working collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders, you will contribute to long-term maintenance planning, asset management, and the implementation of energy-efficient solutions, helping to ensure that Local Authority buildings remain safe, compliant, efficient, and welcoming environments for staff, service users, and visitors.
