Night Shift Foreperson - Highways (Short-Term Cover)

Location: Suffolk (various sites)
Rate: CIS £400 per night
Duration: 3-4 weeks (temporary cover)
Shift: Nights



Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Night Shift Foreperson to oversee highway construction works across Suffolk. You will be responsible for leading site teams, ensuring works are delivered safely, on time, and to the required quality standards while maintaining strong communication with the Site Agent and wider project team.



Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise highway construction works during night shifts across multiple Suffolk sites.
  • Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental standards in line with MGroup Highways policies, promoting the "It Starts With Me" culture.
  • Allocate labour and resources daily, ensuring all activities are undertaken by competent operatives.
  • Ensure plant, tools, and materials are available, serviceable, and sufficient for planned works; report shortages to the Site Agent.
  • Review and implement working documentation, ensuring it is accurate and relevant to the tasks being carried out.
  • Accept and manage permits, ensuring they are included within work packs and communicated to the workforce.
  • Carry out "Setting to Work" briefings with operatives and subcontractors prior to shift commencement.
  • Deliver and record Daily Activity Briefs, Pre-Start Briefings, Toolbox Talks, and End-of-Shift Debriefs.
  • Supervise operatives, gangers, and subcontractors, ensuring adherence to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Ensure all works are carried out under safe systems of work, with specific consideration for night-time conditions.
  • Monitor progress and productivity, reporting updates and any issues to the Site Agent.
  • Review and submit completed records and site documentation accurately and on time.


Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Foreperson within highways or civil engineering
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety and safe systems of work
  • Experience managing night shift operations
  • Good leadership and communication skills
  • Relevant certifications (e.g. SSSTS/SMSTS, CSCS) preferred
