Freight Sales Executive

Location: East Kent
Salary: Basic £30-35k, plus OTE £60k-£90k+ uncapped

We are currently partnering with a well-established and growing transport and distribution business with a strong UK and European presence. As part of their continued expansion, they are looking to appoint a commercially focused freight professional to support growth within their forwarding division.

This role combines hands-on freight forwarding with proactive business development, making it well suited to someone who enjoys both the operational and commercial aspects of the industry.

The opportunity

 

This is not a purely operational role, nor is it a traditional sales position.

You will be responsible for managing freight movements end-to-end while also developing new business across UK and European markets, building relationships with logistics managers, planners, and operational decision-makers.

The focus is on identifying and securing smaller, ad-hoc business streams, converting them into repeat clients, and ultimately building your own portfolio.

Key responsibilities

 

  • Manage day-to-day freight forwarding operations across air, sea, and road
  • Handle quotations, pricing, and supplier negotiations
  • Arrange and oversee shipments from enquiry through to delivery
  • Liaise with carriers, agents, and customers to ensure smooth movement of goods
  • Generate new business opportunities through outbound activity and networking
  • Build relationships with logistics managers and supply chain contacts
  • Identify and convert ad-hoc freight requirements into ongoing business
  • Manage and grow your own pipeline and client base
  • Work closely with internal teams to maintain service standards
  • Develop and present a structured plan for business growth

About you

 

  • Experience within freight forwarding, logistics, or transport
  • Solid understanding of import/export processes and multi-modal freight
  • Commercially aware with a proactive approach to business development
  • Confident building relationships and generating new opportunities
  • Resilient, self-motivated, and results-driven
  • Comfortable working in a target-based environment
  • Ideally able to bring an existing network of industry contacts

This role will particularly suit someone who:

  • Is currently in a forwarding role but wants to move into a more commercial position
  • Feels limited by process-driven environments or lack of earning potential
  • Wants to take greater ownership of their work and results
